Electric
Light Orchestra - Remastered & Enhanced
30th Anniversary Edition
The exact moment The Move
became the Electric Light Orchestra
is captured on EMI's forthcoming 2CD
limited edition release of ELO's debut album. Coordinated
by ELO archivist and Face The Music editor Rob Caiger with design
and artwork by Woody Info Bureau's Gill and with the participation
and cooperation of Jeff Lynne
& Roy Wood, the album is released
in the UK by EMI on 12 November 2001
(EMI Records 07243 5 333722 3).
Europe and Japan will follow with their own releases later.
The 2CD limited edition will revert to a single CD - Electric
Light Orchestra - once copies of the slipcase version have sold
out. Sony / Legacy will release No Answer as a single CD only
in the USA during 2002.

EMI
ELO ECD again!
The limited edition 2 CD set
from EMI's First Light series
is almost there! The set, featuring the legendary
ELO 1 album plus a bonus disc of previously unreleased
material from the early days of ELO, both in the studio
and live, is now set for a November
release... hang on, the nice man at EMI says...
November 5th... no, wait a minute, Major Caiger says
it could be the 12th... definitely
November though! This special edition will be on sale for a
very limited period, after which the release will revert to
a single CD featuring the original album. The
digital remastering is by Peter
Mew who was the engineer on the
original quadraphonic mix! Sleeve notes are by Roy and Jeff,
set beautifully within a rather lovely little CD booklet (!)
and the Enhanced CD 1 features
some wonderful interactive images, photos, information, discography
and the original promo film for 10538
Overture. What more could any fan wish for? Hmmm. In
the meantime, take a look at the CD cover artwork.
ELO 1 retains its original sleeve, the bonus CD "First
Light" has a never-before-seen-in-colour psychedelic
weirdo-type pic and the slipcase which houses the special edition
2 CD set features ELO's very early lightbulb
logo. In fact, here they are, look! (might change a tiny
bit before the release date, but not very much so you'll be
sure to recognise them in the shop!). You know, the more you
listen to this album... I mean really listen, the more you realise
what an incredibly brave and innovative piece of work this was.

Woody
Up To Tricks Again!
Roy joined Cheap Trick onstage
for the final night of their recent run of sell out gigs at
The Garage in London. The band invited Roy to sing and play
guitar on his Move hit,
California Man, which was most successfully covered by
Cheap Trick. Each of the three
nights presented a different Trick album, the last night (Wednesday,
12th June) featuring "Heaven Tonight".
Roy took the stage to an exultant reception and contributed
to a really "rock out" version of his song, sharing vocals with
Robin Zander and guitar duties
with Rick Nielsen.
Chrissie Hynde later assisted on "Walk
Away" and much jollity was had during the after
show socialising, which spilled out of the sweltering building
and ended up as a back street party! Totally top stuff!

Roy
Wins Ivor Novello Award
The photographic evidence is now HERE
In recognition of his exceptional
contribution to popular music, Roy was awarded an "Ivor"
for his Outstanding Song Collection
at the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards.
In accepting his award, presented by Chris Tarrant, Roy had this
to say...
" It's pretty unusual
for me to receive an award, especially a posh one like this.
I'd like to thank the Ivors for that, thank you very much indeed.
It's encouraged me to go home and write some more songs. Thank
you very much. "
Roy attended the award ceremony
in London at The Grosvenor House Hotel with his daughter Holly,
along with such luminaries as Stevie
Wonder, Pete
Townshend, John
Barry, Craig David
and Iron Maiden!
(Many thanks
to Daizy for the transcription)
